Rhythm Walk

I'm ready to do a rhythm walk with the 4th and 5th graders today.  We'll walk from pattern to pattern to the beat of some music from Somalia.  As students make their way around the square, I'll do informal assessing.  A fun way to see if they can read rhythms!

Ready!

Second Graders are showing they're ready to play instruments!

New Orff Instruments!

We are so excited to have more instruments in the music classroom this year!
Each of the elementary schools in the district has replaced or added Orff instruments to their music rooms this year.   We have enough now for every student to get a turn on several different instruments.  The sound is great and students are actively involved in their learning.

Stone Passing Game

Students were using bean bags to play a stone passing game from Ghana.   It's a great way to practice a steady beat and still have some fun with friends.

We have received many new instruments for students to use.  Maybe the one that is the most fun is the Bass Bar.  It only plays one note but what an awesome note!!!

Of course there were some Vikings fans in the group who thought it sounded just like the big drum at the stadium!

Ukuleles have arrived!  We will be able to work with these through November when they will travel to another school in the Roseville District.  Students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades have learned their first couple chords and some simple songs.  Third grade students are taking it a little more slowly!

Two fifth graders sang and played an original song for us!

Did you know "Lime in the Coconut" only requires one chord?!
Have you heard students singing it at home????

Watch for a letter to come home this week!
